Multiplicity estimates for algebraic vector fields and foliations
Abstract: We consider the problem of estimating the intersection multiplicity between the
trajectory of a polynomial vector field and an algebraic hypersurface, or more
generally, a polynomial foliation and an algebraic surface of complementary
dimension. Good upper bounds have been obtained by Gabrielov and Khovanskii in
the case that the foliation is non-singular and the intersection is isolated.
We suggest an alternative algebraic approach to the problem, and derive results
dropping these two assumptions.
