A guide for new NMR Users

Our high-resolution NMR spectrometers are normally operated in three ways:
  1. By trained users
  2. As an open access
  3. As a service.

1. By trained users: The DRX800, DMX500, AV500 and DRX400 instruments are accessible to anyone who has been trained (Users Training) on their use by the NMR lab staff, performing work for their own research groups. Each authorized-user account is given a special permission for scheduling time on the instruments (via Internal Services at the WIS) as well as a userid for login to the instruments.

2. As an open access: A short training session allows members of the Organic Chemistry Department to run samples automatically on the 250 MHz. Booking 20-minute sessions on the 250 is done on site.

3. As a service: A liquid NMR service is provided on the AV-500, DRX400 and DMX500, both for WIS staff (Internal NMR Services) as well as for external users (External NMR Services).

3.1. Internal NMR Services
These notes explain how research workers at the Weizmann Institute can make use of the high-field and multinuclear NMR service. This service compliments the open-access facilities offered by the 250 MHz spectrometers to members of the Organic Chemistry department.
Samples may be submitted for analysis to the service, and are returned to you for analysis of the data. You may seek the assistance of the NMR staff for the analysis of your data as necessary. This service is busy, so prior to submitting your sample for analysis a few basic considerations are worthwhile.
All samples must be supplied in a precision 5 mm tube (at least a Wilmad 507PP). Ask the NMR staff for assistance.
Research workers may also ask to be trained to use the high-resolution facilities themselves (Users Training). Initial training must be given by the NMR staff, even if you have used NMR instrumentation before. To book instrument time, use the Internal Services of the WIS. Contact the NMR staff to set you an account for using the instruments.

3.2. External NMR Services
We also offer an external NMR service for the chemical industry.
The full range of NMR experiments are offered, at operating frequencies of 250,
400, 500 or 800 MHz. Advice on experiment selection and data interpretation is also available. Anyone interested in using this facility should contact us for further information.
