Biomolecular NMR Facility Manager at CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, Structural Biology Initiative

The City University of New York's newest facility, the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) builds on the success of the University's rich past with the goal of becoming a leader in visionary scientific research in the future.  Focusing on the fields of Structural Biology, Nanotechnology, Photonics, Neuroscience, and Environmental Sciences, the ASRC will operate as a nucleus of a University-wide science enterprise, fostering the development of an integrated research network that brings together faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows from CUNY's colleges across the five boroughs.  This state-of-the-art, world-class facility will house a staff of elite scientists and leaders who will break down the walls between disparate but increasingly interrelated scientific disciplines.

As part of this team, we seek applications for a Biomolecular NMR Facility Manager, who will oversee the ASRC’s three new NMR spectrometers from Bruker BioSpin at 600, 700 and 800 MHz.  All three have been optimized for solution NMR experiments characterizing biomolecular structure, dynamics and function using modern Bruker Avance III consoles.  Each instrument has a state-of-the-art coldprobe providing high-sensitivity detection of 1H, 13C and 15N signals (plus 19F on one probe), complemented by standard room temperature probes.  All spectrometers have robotic sample changers (SampleCase at 600, 800 MHz; SampleJet at 700 MHz) to facilitate protein/ligand screening and operation by remote users.  Additional NMR spectrometers are present at neighboring facilities, including CCNY and the New York Structural Biology Research Center and overseen by staff at these sites; coordination between managers and facilities will be expected.

Reporting to the Scientific Director of the ASRC Structural Biology Initiative, the Biomolecular NMR Facility Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and management of this new, state-of-the-art NMR facility.  Duties include the development and provision of training in addition to assisting internal and external users.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in collaborative research in the scientific areas supported at the ASRC, and will be encouraged to develop and drive an independent research program in NMR spectroscopy and its uses in modern scientific research in the biological sciences.

Requirements:  Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in a relevant area of chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or engineering with direct expertise in biomolecular NMR spectroscopy.  Also required are success in carrying out research and ability to advise and/or oversee the direct work of others.
