Screening and optimization for good quality protein crystals are carried out using Douglas Instrument IMPAX 1-5 and Oryx 6 robots. These instruments employ the microbatch method under oil, which is very rapid, and consumes only small amounts of protein, making it suitable for high throughput crystallization experiments.

Many target proteins have been successfully crystallized using the microbatch method, yielding high quality crystals.
