Apple, honey, and popcorn

Date: Sunday, January 29, 2017

Members of the Science Club of the Israel Association of Friends of the Weizmann Institute gathered before Rosh Hashana to welcome the Jewish New Year.  Participants gathered at the Cinema City complex in Ramat Hasharon for a preview screening of the Israeli movie Past Life.
The Science Club met with Director Avi Nesher, who recounted how the movie came about. After he released his movie Once I Was (2010), about the memory of the Holocaust, he began receiving messages from Holocaust survivors who wanted to share their stories. At that time he wanted to avoid delving too deep into this loaded subject, met with Israeli musician Ella Milch-Sheriff, who wanted him to tell the story of her family. He was most intrigued by her and her sister’s unique coming-of-age story in 1970s Israel. “This is the story of women who try to find their way in a very masculine world,” he said. “I thought it would be interesting to create a movie about brilliant women who have to struggle for their right of self-expression.”

The evening continued with greetings by President of the Weizmann Institute, Prof. Daniel Zajfman, and Chairman of the Israel Friends, Mr. Shimshon Harel, who gave an overview of the activities of the Israeli Friends in the past year.
