The Weizmann Alumni Organization invited graduates of the Weizmann Institute of Science to take time out of their busy schedules to dive into history, at a special event that took place on the Rehovot campus in July.

Dr. Omry Barzilai, Director of Research and Archaeology at the Israel Antiquities Authority, told the audience about his exciting work excavating at Manot Cave in the Western Galilee. Excavations there have revealed the remains of a modern human skull, estimated to be 55,000 years old. Discoveries at Manot Cave have also indicated that today's modern man migrated from Africa to the rest of the world some 65,000 years ago. Finally, Barzilai highlighted a new study that refutes the concept that the Neanderthals lived only in caves.

The lecture was followed by an intriguing and humorous talk given by Doron Fishler, an Israeli film critic, writer, and public speaker. He is the founder and editor of the independent film website Ein Hadag (Fish Eye) and hosts a podcast for the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation.
