Visit with the President of Uruguay

Director for External Affairs for Latin America, Dany Schmit (left), met with Uruguay’s President, Dr. Tabaré Vázquez (right), in August in Montevideo. Dr. Vazquez is an oncologist who was a visiting student in the lab of the late Prof. Nathan Trainin. The two discussed possible collaborations in cancer research between the Weizmann Institute and institutions in Uruguay. Dr. Vazquez was last in Israel in 2008 on an official visit during his first term as President; he is currently serving his second term. On that visit, he toured the Weizmann Institute.
