The Global Gathering 2014: Celebrating partnerships
Every two years, the Weizmann Institute of Science holds the Global Gathering, a major international event for the Institute’s biggest supporters, held at a different global locale every time. It is an opportunity for the Weizmann Institute’s major donors and closest friends from around the world to gather and learn about the latest developments in scientific research occurring at the Institute, and experience the thrill of being part of a global family committed to science for the benefit of humanity.
From May 18 to 21, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science (ACWIS) will be hosting the 2014 Global Gathering: Partners in Discovery in New York City. Venues will include Ellis Island, the Lincoln Center, Rockefeller University, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Among the stellar lineup of speakers will be Dr. Gad Asher, who will talk about his research on the body’s circadian clock; Dr. Eran Elinav, an expert on the microbial environment in the human body; Prof. Avishay Gal-Yam, an astrophysicist studying the origin of supernovae; Prof. Noam Sobel, a neurobiologist who specializes in the human olfactory system; and Dr. Ravid Straussman, a new recruit of the Weizmann Institute who studies the role of healthy cells in the ability of cancer tumors to resist chemotherapy, with a particular focus on melanoma.
