Fundamental catalysis

We study the physical and chemical phenomena on model catalyst surfaces. Our studies are relevant to the currently prevalent grands challanges in energy and environment, and potential roadmaps such as the hydrogen economy, methanol economy, oil economy, and carbon dioxide utilisation.

Water chemistry on surfaces

We are studying water adsorption, water-induced reconstructions, hydrogen bonding, and ion dissolution on metal, metal oxide, and ionic crystal surfaces.

Breaking the barriers in surface science

We are extending the capacity of the currently existing techniques to be operable in the presence of 1 bar of gas and in liquids. This makes our studies more relevant for industrially important fields such as heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemical hydrogen generation and energy storage.
