Computing Facilities

Computing Facilities available in the Department of Chemical Physics and in the Faculty of Chemistry

The Chemical Physics Department has a 380-core PC farm comprised of 50 Sun Fire V20z servers with AMD Opteron Model 252 (2.6GHz) dual cpus, seven Dell PE1950 servers each with two Intel Xeon X5355 (2.66GHz) quad core cpus, and 28 HP Proliant BL2x220 servers with Intel Xeon E5440 quad core processors. Most of the Sun nodes have 2GB of memory, however, four nodes have 4GB and two nodes have 8GB of memory each. Four Dell nodes have 16GB of memory, while the other three have 8GB. HP nodes have 16GB RAM each. There are 7TB of available user disk space. All the servers are connected by 1 Gbit Ethernet and run 64 bit CentOS 5.3. The system is integrated into a batch computing system using PBS Pro software which is installed there. The system is accessible via SSH from any computer on campus.
