MOTY HEIBLUM GROUP OF MESOSCOPIC PHYSICS

Ph.D. and Post Doc Positions

The group is currently fully staffed. There is room, however, for exceptionally excellent PhD students and post-docs interested in our fields of research.

The subjects under study:

1. Phase evolution in complex mesoscopic systems. Examples are single electron quantum dots in the Kondo and Coulomb blockade regimes, interferometers based on edge channel transport (Mach Zehnder type).
2. Studying decoherence via controlled dephasing of systems, such as 'which path?' determination.
3. Phase recovery, after decoherence, via cross correlation measurements between the detector and the interferometer (so called ‘post selection’ measurements).
4. Utilizing quantum shot noise measurements for the determination of 'fractional charges' of quasiparticles in the fractional quantum Hall effect regime.
5. Interference and statistics of Laughlin’s and non-abelian quasiparticles in the fractiuonal quantum Hall effect regime.
6. Growth by MBE of low disorder GaAs-AlGaAs heterostructures, with record mobility at low temperature.
7. MBE growth and SEM/TEM charactization of III-V axial and lateral semiconductor heterostructure nanowires. More

The Center of Sub Micron (SMC) Research and the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS):

1. WIS is a graduate only school some 20 km south of Tel Aviv.
2. WIS is situated in an enclosed campus with many of its faculty and visitors living on campus.
3. Lectures, seminars, and email communication are all conducted in English.
4. A large number of foreign visitors are on campus all year around.
5. Salaries are comparable with European and USA salaries.
6. The Condensed Matter Physics Dep. has 5 experimentalist and 6 theoreticians.
7. The SMC is a modern research center, with three high mobility MBE systems, a professional electron beam writing machine and all the fabrication facilities needed to fabricate submicron structures.
8. Measurements are conducted in three dilution refrigerators (two down to 7 mK, one down to 40 mK) and magnetic fields up to 18T.
9. One more dilution refrigerator is now on order (~1mK).
