The Organizing Committee is pleased to present the Scientific Program of the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Israel Chemical Society, to be held on February 6-7, 2007 at the Hilton Hotel in Tel-Aviv. Invited lecturers from abroad include:
  • Ad Bax (NIH, USA)
  • François Diederich (ETH Zürich, Switzerland)
  • Adam Heller (U. of Texas at Austin, USA)
  • Bruce Budowle ("Mr. DNA" of the FBI)
  • Thomas Ebbesen (Louis Pasteur U., Strasbourg, France)
  • Juergen Rabe (Humboldt U., Berlin, Germany)
  • Branko Ruscic (Argonne National Laboratory, USA)
  • Joachim P. Spatz (MPI Stuttgart and U. of Heidelberg, Germany)
  • Jonathan Stamler (Duke U. Medical School, USA)
Five plenary lectures and sixteen sessions -- with a total of 88 lectures -- will cover the wide variety of chemical science in Israel. With two exceptions, each session has one keynote lecture and four session lectures. In an attempt to breathe some fresh air into the conference formula, we made some departures from past practice:
  • About half of the session lectures were selected from abstracts submitted in response to a "call for papers". Said response was quite overwhelming, and we believe that we assembled a very strong ensemble of lectures.
  • Many of the contributed lectures will be given by outstanding students and postdocs.
  • Highly interdisciplinary contributed lectures were grouped into a newly created "Science Mix" session.
The 2006 ICS Prize winners -- David Milstein and Nimrod Moiseyev -- will give plenary lectures, while the 2006 ICS Outstanding Young Scientist Prize winner, Milko van der Boom, will give the keynote lecture in the Science Mix session.

A festive conference dinner in the grand Hilton style will honor the 2006 ICS Prize winners, Profs. Milstein and Moiseyev. Brief, informal, after-dinner speeches will focus on them as scientists and human beings. In addition, two "change of the guard" ceremonies will take place, as the longtime ICS administrative secretary and editor of the ICS Bulletin will hand over their respective batons to their successors.

About 240 posters have been accepted for the poster sessions. All posters will be on display on both days.

We trust that this will be an inspiring and enjoyable meeting for all of us.

Sincerely,

Gershom (Jan) Martin
