International Student Workshop on Lipid Domains
Biological membranes - are we all on the same raft?
A meeting of minds between Chemistry, Physics and Biology
Understanding the structure and composition of lipid domains is an important challenge that scientists from chemistry, biology and physics are all working to meet. However, there is little coordination between the different fields and to date there remain large gaps in the concepts and goals of each field. We believe that the best way to unravel the mysteries of lipid domains is to use approaches from all three disciplines. Stronger correlations between the disciplines may clarify discrepancies and make sure that we are all on the same page. For this purpose we plan to bring a group of scientists from all three fields to meet and discuss the issues at hand.
This workshop is primarily aimed at students and postdocs, most of whom will come from outside Israel. We hope that the participants will be open-minded and willing to look at things from different perspectives! Students may apply for full or partial grants.
The organizers of the conference, Michal Goldschmidt and Roy Ziblat, are ready to provide help and information.
