Proteasome-mediated degradation is central to regulation of cellular processes, protein quality control, amino acid recycling under starvation and, in general, to proper cell functioning. Owing to the complexity of proteasomes, their involvement in a plethora of processes and their association with therapeutic approaches, comprehensive understanding of their function must involve diverse research approaches, spanning from biochemistry, structural and computational biology to genetics, cell biology and biomedical research. Accordingly, this conference will bring together experts in diverse proteolytic systems, both eukaryotic and prokaryotic, and will focus on the regulation of proteasome function in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
