Fueled by the technical ability to map and quantify RNA modifications at a transcriptome wide scale, the field of RNA modifications has undergone a huge leap in recent years with the realization that some modifications are widespread not only on tRNA and rRNA, where they were traditionally studied, but also on mRNA. These findings have been leading to the formation of a rapidly growing community of researchers focusing on the functions and mechanisms of action of these modifications. Given the nascency of the field, fundamental questions are still poorly understood, including: What are the basic building blocks of mRNA modifications? What are their core functions? What are the unifying principles of their mechanisms of action? What are the limitation and challenges of technologies for assaying them? These questions will be at the heart of this meeting, which will bring together researchers exploring them from different angles.
