WP12: Drug Targeting Systems Course (D63)

The course aims at demonstrating how MRI can help in the elucidation of drug delivery/release processes. An introduction to the origin of the contrast in a MR image and the fundamentals of contrast agent design will be provided. The major classes of nano-sized carriers for drug/imaging agents delivery will be considered, including paramagnetic micelles, liposomes, polymerosomes, LipoCEST, labelled endogeneous carriers such as HDL, LDL and ferritin, etc.The mode of action of each class of agents will be described as well the "in vitro" characterization of the relevant properties. Furthermore it will be consider the responsiveness of nano-sized carriers to external(ultrasound, heat) and endogeneous (pH, enzymatic activity) stimuli.
