Jeep Trip to the Eilat Mountains with Bedouin-Style Hospitality -14:00 – 17:00

We will begin the trip at the Shlomo Wadi where we will learn a bit about the desert and the granite rocks that rise to a height of 800 meters above the Red Sea. Acacia trees, antelopes and rock rabbits may be observed on our way to the Rahavim Wadi, where we will see a fascinating geological combination of sea sediment, lime stone and the colorful granite stone. We will then continue our ascent along the old Eilat road, otherwise known as "Darb el Hadj" (the Muslim Pilgrim's Road) until we reach "Ein Netafim" - a sweet water spring in the middle of the desert.  We will "climb" Mt. Yoash (with the jeeps) until we reach the viewpoint where a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Eilat spreads out before us and the meeting of the common borders between Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt can be seen.

During the trip we will stop and enjoy an authentic Bedouin tea, including freshly baked Bedouin pita bread, with hyssop and labane (a kind of cream cheese), and sweet herbal tea.  Seating is on mats and the area is not shaded.

Mt. Yoash Viewpoint – offers a breathtaking view of the Eilat Mountains and Sinai. The ascent to this viewpoint, located at the end of the Eilat mountain side just south of the road, is on foot or by car on a dirt road.

Difficulty ranked as easy to medium.

Jeep Trip and Hike

We will leave Eilat and travel directly to the Sculpture Wadi, a beautiful wadi of white sand stone that has many unusual and interesting shapes. The "leopard" is just one of the "sculptures" that can be seen with a bit of imagination. The jeep will pass by Be'er Ora, now a young community settlement, and climb to the unforgettable Ora Heights where the breathtaking view of the Arava and Raham Wadi (one of the biggest in the area) can be enjoyed by all. We will then cross the Raham Wadi, hopefully see antelope that live in the area, and head west through the Eilat Mountains to Wadi Etek.  Here we will begin our hike (which is for hiking lovers) that includes walking through a narrow crevice and climbing up and down the side of the crevice using ladders, ropes and stakes provided for this purpose. We will then continue in the jeeps to a view point at the top of the "Patrol Ascent" where a magnificent view of the Arava and Edom Mountains can be seen, and travel south via road 12, a road running along the western border, to another viewpoint on Mt. Hezkiah.
