Welcome to the Conseil Pasteur-Weizman

A landmark Scientific Cooperation agreement was signed in 1975 by Professor Michael Sela, then President of the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel, and Professor Jacques Monod, Director of the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. A joint association, the Conseil Pasteur-Weizmann, was established, whose main aim and task has been to promote and support programs for the active scientific cooperation between the two Institutions.

The Conseil P-W is led by Dr Robert Parienti, Delegate General of the Weizman Institute in France and Europe, and the Chairman is Prof. Michel Goldberg from Institut Pasteur. The Conseil P-W elects a Scientific Council every three years, which consists of scientists from both institutions, and the Council is currently presided upon by the undersigned. The different programs and relations between the two Institutes are handled by two Coordinators: Dr. Nancy Guillén from Institut Pasteur in Paris and Prof. Michael Eisenbach from the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot.

The Scientific Council has established a number of active programs:

  1. an annual competitive grant system to support joint research projects
  2. an exchange program of scientists for short term visits
  3. a program to fund Post-doctoral candidates from one Institute to the other
  4. the sponsoring of a joint Symposium which alternates every two years between Rehovot and Paris.

The scientific topics of each of the 21 Symposiums which have been held until today have differed each time, according to the common interests proposed by the scientific communities of both Institutes.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the cooperation agreement between Institut Pasteur and the Weizmann Institute, the Conseil decided to organize the 22nd P-W Symposium in Rome, from June 7th-9th , 2010. This will be the first time the Symposium is to be held outside of Paris or Rehovot, and it will be hosted by the Istituto Pasteur-Fondazione Cenci Bolognetti at the Sapienza Universita di Roma. The topic chosen for the 22nd Symposium by the P-W Scientific Council is:

Stem Cells : From Basic Biology to Translational Medicine

The Symposium Organzing Committee consists of Prof. Ernesto Di Mauro, Prof. Antonio Musaró, Prof. ShahragimTajbakhsh, Prof. Dov Zipori and Prof. David Mirelman. Twenty four scientists representing each of the three Institutes, as well as two leading International investigators in the Stem Cell research field, have accepted the invitation to participate and lecture at the Symposium.

The scientific program, as well as the Poster for the Symposium, can be found on this website.

One of the main aims of the Symposium is to foster interchanges and collaborations between the laboratories of the participating scientists. The 22nd Rome Symposium will be open for attendance to the wider scientific community, and I wish to use this opportunity to invite all those interested in this very interesting scientific topic to register online (as requested by the Sapienza Universita), using the registration form included in this website.
