About the European Cytoskeletal Forum

The European Cytoskeletal Forum (ECF) started at the end of the 1970s when a small group of researcher based in European laboratories and interested in several aspects of cytoskeletal biology decided to organize periodic meetings in order to discuss the several aspects of cytoskeletal biology. At that time, the Forum was called "European Cytoskeletal Club". The starting members included: W.W. Franke, G. Gabbiani, B. Geiger, B.M. Jockush, U. Lindberg, M. Osborn, F. Ramaekers, J.V. Small, G. Vandekerckhove, and K. Weber. The Club activities developed steadily from 1981 when the first meeting was held in Nyon, near Geneva (Switzerland). The meeting frequency became soon yearly. The Club became a Forum which was awarded an Euroconference Grant from the European Union in 1993. The first Euroconference Meeting was held in Assisi, Italy. The Euroconference grant was renewed in 1996.
