Recent decade has seen a new generation of gaseous detectors - the micropattern detectors; they are based on modern micro-lithography technologies and implemented in various media, varying from silicon and glass to plastic foils. This generation includes many families of micropattern concepts for the detector electrodes, all of them leading to more compact, efficient, low-noise, precise and fast gaseous radiation detection devices. Their properties are not yet fully investigated or understood.
