The Katzir-Katchalsky Student Travel Fellowships

The student travel fellowships program has been in operation since 1976, 1216 grants have been approved for activities in the various fields of the life sciences such as: molecular & cellular biology, evolutionary biology, bioenergetics, neurosciences, endocrinology, medical genetics, bioinformatics, biophysics, and many more.
The award is intended for students in institutions of higher education in Israel who are lead authors of articles in reviewed journals approved for publication.  It is granted to graduate students (mainly Ph.D. candidates) based on achievements and the purpose of the trip.

Application Deadlines
Deadline for applications are: March 1 and August 1.

General Instructions

  1. The Fellowship funds travel expenses (flights) to international conferences, workshops and courses in the Life Sciences.

  2. The award is granted according to the following priorities: 
    a. Participation in a course
    b. Oral presentation in a conference
    c. Poster presentation
    d. Participation without presentation

  3. The award is granted only once during the student’s studies

  4. The award is granted to distinguished students with outstanding scientific achievements.  Eligibility for the award also takes into account:
    First author publications*
    Excellent recommendations
    High grades achieved during graduate studies
    Prizes and awards received

    *At least ONE FIRST author paper, published or accepted for 
    publication is required in order to allow submission.

  5. Please note that the accptance rate is about 25%.

Application Procedures

Order of documents:
  1. Submit an online registration form
  2. The following documents must be combined into one PDF file and uploaded through the Online registration form:
    1. Curriculum Vitae
    2. List of publications
    3. Certificate stating your updated MSc course average
      Certificate stating your updated PhD course average
    4. Letter from the conference organizers confirming that you have been accepted. Applicants that have been accepted for oral presentation must present the lecture invitation letter.
    5. Copy of the abstract you submited (if you have)
    6. Copy of the course program (1-2 pages)
    7. Pro forma invoice from your Travel Agent stating the cheapest fare to your destination
  3. A letter of recommendation from the student's advisor is REQUIRED. Please see the guidelines at the "Recommendation letter" section.
