Policy and Regulations
Self borrowing: How to use the loan interface?
Who can Borrow Books?
Weizmann Institute of Science staff members and students may borrow books from all our Libraries.
Readers who are not in the HR database (advisors, visiting scientists, summer students etc.) should register through the responsible department.Book Reservation
Library users may request that specific books from Faculty Libraries collections be reserved for them.
These books will be kept for the user by the Faculty Librarian unless needed by another user during this time.
Borrowers are requested to legibly fill in all required information on the attached book card.Loan Period
A book may be borrowed for a period of two weeks. It should then be returned directly to the Library, and not be passed on to other readers. Loans may be renewed for an additional two weeks if the book has not been requested by another reader. Renewals can be done via the Librarian's e-mail, in person, or by phone.Number of Books by One Person
A maximum of six books may be borrowed at one time by the same person from each Library on campus (for Weizmann staff and students only). Not to be Borrowed
Reference books may not be borrowed. They are designated by special markings on the book spine. Some Faculty Libraries use the letter "R" on the book's spine to indicate that it is a reference book.Reserved for Courses Books
Reserved course books are usually not borrowed unless the specific Faculty Library has different rules. Please ask your Faculty Librarian, or check the Faculty Library's homepage.New Books
New books on display are not to be removed from any Library for the period determined by the Library. Readers can write their names on the book card, and they will be notified when the books are available for circulation.Journals
Periodicals do not circulate, nor can they be removed from the Library. (Life Sciences and Mathematics staff and students should consult with the relevant Librarian for exceptions.)
The latest issue of a periodical may not be removed from any Library.Returning Books Before Leaving the Institute
Staff members, students, and visiting scientists leaving the Institute should return all books borrowed to the relevant Libraries before obtaining a signature on the required clearance form. Any missing material could result in salary/funds being deducted.
Loss, Damage, and Late Return of Books
Our books and collections are valuable. Users are obliged to keep them in good condition, and to return them to the Library on time.
A reader who damages or loses a book will be charged for the cost of the repair, or replacement plus expenditures (add 25% to book price-VAT included).
After a book has been overdue for two weeks without renewing the loan, a fine will be imposed at a certain rate per week until the book is returned.
Fines will be deducted from the reader's salary or grant.Personal Borrowing from Other University Libraries
Weizmann Institute staff and students are entitled to borrow books directly from other Israeli university libraries in the vicinity of their home address.
A valid Institute staff member/student card must be shown when entering some libraries.
In order to enable personal borrowing, a form authorized by the Weizmann Institute's Chief Librarian (ext. 3295, e-mail) is required. The reader should apply in person, showing a valid staff member/student card.
Readers are requested to obey all rules of the lending library. All payments due to these libraries will be automatically deducted from the reader's salary.
Options for External Students and Staff
Academic staff and graduate students of Israeli universities may borrow books from Weizmann Institute Libraries. The respective university library obligatory certificate should be given to the Central Library Reference Desk before using one of the Faculty Libraries.
