Generic Modeling of a Cell Behavior
Harel's lab

The basis of this project is the creation of a web of stimuli and responding cellular behaviors. Certain behaviors, such as proliferation, death and motility are common to all cells (1), and can therefore be used to form the basis of any biological system. We are using the Rhapsody software (2) to utilize and broaden the inheritance term to construct a single generic cell and its interactions with the environment. The main laws of cell-cell and cell-environment interactions and the consequence cell-actions are being dictated. The unique outcome (action) of each cellular interaction depends on the specific cell type and the specific stimulus. We also plan to develop an interface that can be understood by experimentalists, and make it possible for them to simulate biological behavior emerging from the experimental data. In silico experimentation is a central objective.
