The Faculty consists of the Department of Mathematics, and the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. The research carried out in the faculty ranges from abstract and theoretical studies within mathematics and computer science, through using and applying mathematics and computer science in other sciences, to their application in concrete industrial developments.
Analysis and Geometry: This area includes classical and modern analysis and their applications, algebraic geometry, geometry of Banach spaces, convexity, and ordinary and partial differential equations.
Algebra and Number Theory: This area includes the theory of groups and algebras and their representations, and elementary and modern number theory.
Randomness and Probability: This area includes classical probability theory, stochastic processes, statistical Data analysis, and randomness and computation.
Dynamical Systems: This area includes flow processes and fluid dynamics, geophysical dynamics, chaos, control theory, and stability.
Scientific Computation: This area includes numerical analysis, numerical methods, computational fluid dynamics, and computational chemistry and physics.
Complexity, Algorithms and Cryptography: This area includes computational complexity, pseudo-randomness, cryptography and cryptoanalysis, and design and analysis of algorithms.
Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics: This area includes computational biology, and mathematical and computational models of biological systems.
Vision and Brain Research: This area includes computer vision, computational brain modeling, image and video processing, computational photography, robotics, and machine learning.
Systems and Applications: This area includes game theory and mathematical economics, software and systems engineering, distributed computing, and communication networks.
