The Weizmann Institute Accelerator Laboratory

The accelerator laboratory at the Weizmann Institute originates from the purchse of the 3 MV Van de Graaff accelerator in 1957. Subsequently, the 6 MV Tandem (1966) and the 14 UD Pelletron Koffler accelerator were added. Of the three, the Van de Graaff is still operational while the Tandem and the Koffler accelerator have been de-commissioned. The accelerator laboratory represents the foundation of accelerator-based experimental scientific carried out at WIS.
At present, the Van De Graaff (3MV) is used for different scientific experiments, from nuclear astrophysics, to applied research in material science and ion-implanted optics devices. It provides ion-beam services to several scientific departments of the Weizmann Institute and to other research institutes in the country.
