About

The European Committee of the Weizmann Institute of Science (ECWIS) was established as a non-profit organization in Zurich, Switzerland, on May 17, 1960, by Dr. Josef Cohn, Richard Kronstein, Oswald Landau, Victor Loeb, and Dr. Veit Wyler. to raise financial means and promote international scientific cooperation in order to further the development of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.

Today, the European Committee operates both out of the Main Office in Zurich, where it is registered as a charitable association, and its offices at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot.

The Swiss Society was founded in 1978, in Zurich, Switzerland, as a charitable association by a small number of scientists, with the aim of making the Institute and its work better known to the Swiss scientific community, industry, and the public. In addition, it supports a number of postdoctoral fellowships. Today, the Society has roughly 600 members: 400 in the Zurich region; some 120 in the Basel area, 30 in the French- and Italian-speaking areas, and the rest elsewhere in Switzerland.
