Advancing Women in Science: About the program

The Weizmann Institute of Science launched a comprehensive program to proactively advance female scientists in Israel. As part of this initiative, the Israel National Postdoctoral Award Program for Advancing Women in Science was established. As a service to the Israeli scientific community, the program is administered by the Weizmann Institute's Feinberg Graduate School, which has long experience in evaluating students and postdocs.

Each year, outstanding female PhD graduates in the exact and natural sciences from all Israeli institutions of higher learning, who have been accepted as postdoctoral researchers abroad, are invited to apply for the Program (up to two years after approval of their PhD thesis.) About 10 recipients are selected by a committee headed by the Institute’s President's Advisor on Women and Science and that includes representatives from other Israeli universities.

The awards, ranging from $15,000-20,000 per year, are given for two years, and augment the fellowship each scientist receives abroad. Transfer of the funds in the second year is contingent on the continuation of the postdoctoral research.

מכון ויצמן למדע השיק תכנית כוללת לקידום נשיםב מדע בישראל. כחלק מיוזמה זו, נוסדה התכנית הלאומית הישראלית לפרסי מחקר בתר-דוקטוריאליים לקידום נשים במדע. התכנית מנוהלת עליד ימדרש תפיינברג, הזרוע האקדמית של מכון ויצמן, אשר לה נסיון בהערכת סטודנטים וחוקרים בתר-דוקטוריאליים, כשרות לקהיליה המדעית בישראל.

בכל שנה, מדעניות צעירות מצטיינות שסיימו לימודי תואר שלישי במדעי הטבע ובמדעים מדוייקים באחת מהאוניברסיאות או המוסדות האקדמיים הגבוהים בישראל, והתקבלו למחקר בתר-דוקטוריאלי בחו"ל, מוזמנות להגיש את מועמדותן (עד שנתיים מיום אישו רהדוקטורט). ועד המקצועית מיוחדת, בראשות יועצת נשיא מכון ויצמן לקידום נשים במדע, תבחר מדי שנה כעשר זוכות.

הפרסים, בסכום שנתי הנע בין 15,000 – 20,000 דולר לכל מדענית, יוענקו לשתי שנות ההשתלמות ויהוו תוספת למלגה שתינתן ממקור מוסדי רשמי או ממעבדתה מחקר בחו"ל. הפרס בשנה השניה מותנה בהמשך תקין של המחקר בתר-דוקטוריאלי.
