Appendix H: Select Carcinogens

The Laboratory Standard has established criteria for the classification of select carcinogens - chemicals that are classified as carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Carcinogens.

Class 'A' Carcinogens:

  • 2-Acetylaminofluorene
  • 4-Aminodiphenyl (4-aminobiphenyl)
  • Benzidine
  • bis-Chloromethyl ether
  • 3-3'-Dichlorobenzidine (and its salts)
  • 4-Dimethylaminoazobezene
  • Ethyleneimine
  • Methylchloromethyl ether
  • alpha-Naphthylamine
  • beta-Naphthylamine
  • 4-Nitrobiphenyl
  • N-Nitrosodimethylamine
  • beta-Propiolactone
  • The following chemicals have WIS specific regulations. Contact the GSO for informations:
  • Ethylene oxide
  • Formaldehyde
  • Acrylonitrile
  • Inorganic arsenic
  • Lead
  • Benzene
  • Vinyl Chloride
  • 1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP)
  • The list of the chemicals falling into the "select carcinogens" category is published in the ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists) booklet to be found in the Safety Office.
