7. Laser Registration
Israeli law requires that all Class 3B and Class 4 lasers in the State be registered with the Israeli Office of the Environment. Responsibility for compliance of the Weizmann Institute with the State's laser laws has been delegated to the Laser Safety Section. Its executive arm, the Laser Safety Officer (LSO), will supply the official registration forms. State law also requires that: "The operator of any laser system is required to report to the LSO any accidental injury to any individual in the course of use, handling, operation, manufacture or discharge of any laser system."
It is the responsibility of the Laboratory Supervisor to ensure that all Class 3B and Class 4 lasers are registered with the Radiation Safety Section.
It is strongly recommended that laser warning signs and/or safety interlocks be used where significant laser hazards exist.
The Laser Safety Section maintains a file of current recommended laser safety codes and practices. Copies will be made available on request. Since laser uses and designs are rapidly developing and changing, the Laser Safety Section would appreciate any assistance that the many laser users on campus can offer in preserving this file from the dangers of creeping obsolescence.
