The scan probe laboratory is equipped with a low temperature scan probe system operating under ultra high vacuum (UHV) and high magnetic field. The system comprises of a He3 cryostat and a UHV manifold that share the same vacuum space. The specially designed lab space includes an active vibration isolation setup as well as an acoustically shielded room. This unique setup allows for surface manipulation and measurements of local properties on an atomic level. The system, operating as a top loading cryostat, allows for fast tip and sample exchange as well as storage in the vacuum space. Sample preparation prior to measurement is done in a separate compartment. The tip assembly allows for up to 4 electrical connections facilitating measurement with clever tips such as a scanning single electron transistor.
