Student Day - |
|
This year the council tried a concept of inviting people from the whole institute to a fun day which included participants both with and without kids. We had a great time in the pool and playing games, followed by a concert of Students bands, "Tzlil Mecuvan", we finish the night with a cool show of "Funkinstein". |

The opening of the year event - |
|
took place in two parts: one in the morning – the council members came to welcome the new students and gave them information on the council. The new students also received "know your rights" designed pamphlets.
At the evening we screened a movie and Refreshments were served followed by a short introduction to the student council for the new students.

Field Trips- |
|
This year we organized a Trip to the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert , and a trip to Kziv stream (north). A full bus of foreign and Israeli students went hiking in the country.

Purim Party - |
|
The council organized a happy Purim party with a disco, and many surprises. |

Cinema Club - |
|
Weekly movies were screened in the Wolfson lecture room during the whole academic year; movies are screened usually once every two weeks for free.

Passover happening - |
|
We arranged spring happening for student families at the student club. Student children enjoy different activities (games, craft workshops, roll cars and more) on a sunny morning.

Chanuka party - |
|
We had a big Chanukah party for the parents of the FGS and their kids, including many activities and a show. |

Photography contests - |
|
We have started new tradition of photography contests among the students. Nice prizes will be given to the winners.

Foreign student Hebrew Ulpan- |
| |
The council continues subsidizing and organizing the Hebrew Ulpan, this year a third class was open. |

Extra Curricular Courses- |
|
Many new extra curricular course (Ninjitsu, drawing. Oriental dance, feldenkrise and more…) have been open this year - In the council facilities and with the help of the secretary. |

Our office is open twice a week from 11:00-14:00 . Our secretary deals with different activities including student day, parties, website updating, field trips, coupon distribution, mediating extracurricular activities and courses at the student club and generally helping the council members in their duties.

Updating the students' Scolarships |
The council did detailed research in order to negotiate with FGS to increase the student scholarships – that haven't been updated since 2003, the scholarships were updated and the council will continue the negotiation with FGS regarding future updates. These days, the council also makes many efforts in order to increase the Post Docs scholarships as well.
Extending the rotations after changes to the M.Sc program following the strike - Due to the lecturer's strike the FGS changed the M.Sc program for 1st year students, to prevent damage to the Master's research project, and by that shrank the time available for rotations. Following a request of the Student Council the FGS and the Boards of Studies extended the duration of the rotations, enabling students to learn and experience different labs before choosing the lab for their Master's research project.

The Safety committee convenes 8 times a year.

At the next meeting ,the student representative wishes to talk about potential improvements to WIS procedure on emergency transportation of accident casualties. |
Ceremonies and remembrance days |
1) Memorial Day for Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Holocaust Remembrance Day were organized with the help of the student council.
2) Rabin memorial day special symposium was organized. The topic was The split between the political right and left wings in the Israeli society following Rabin's assassination in 1995 and the Hitnatkut in 2005, and on the future challenges of Israel as a nation.
The program included a lectures by two invited speakers followed by open discussion (Q&A):
1) Gen. (Ret.) Yaakov Ami-Dror, vice president of the Lander institute, head of the publication program of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, and a member of several national committees dealing with security.
2) Dr. Einat Wilf, a specialist in policy and strategy, served in the years 2002-2006 as the Foreign Policy Adviser to Vice Prime Minister Shimon Peres, and author of the book 'Founders, Fighters and us - the next struggle for the state of Israel character'

The insurance policy of all students was thoroughly reviewed by the student council representatives together with the insurance agents. Various changes were introduced to the policy and a lecture about the policy and the changes was given on 21.11.06. The main issues discussed are published on the student council website. The student council also helped several students and fellows with specific issues concerning the insurance.
This year, the student council organized two invited talks by Mr. Ofer Lowinger from the Kela Insurance Agency. The talks addressed general pension issues, taking into account that our main income is a tax-exempt scholarship.
| Careers in Science lecture series |
Three lectures on various issues concerning career opportunities for young scientists were offered to WIS students and fellows throughout the year. The lectures were given by :
1. Amir Neiberg, CEO of YEDA
2. Moshe Flugelman ,CEO of MGVA
3. Eliyahu Schwartz, head of Chemistry department in TEVA.
The student council website is up and running. There is a link to the student council website within the FGS website and it consists of general information about the student council members, activities and courses, boards and news. More than 17,000 entrances were this year to the council website. Students are free to use the boards for advertisement.

| Donations and volunteering |
-We have collected during Rosh-Hashana clothing, books and games for people in need.
- Selling AKIM candy bags - The council helped AKIM Rishon Lazion by selling candy bags for students and staff –all the incomes were donated to AKIM.

Discount in various business - The council negotiated with different business in the institute area and got special discount for Weizamnn students at different places (food, culture, and more...)
Discount Coupons - The council took upon itself to distribute discount coupons to various supermarket chains and stores.
Cooperation with Weizmann workers union - Students are now entitled to many of the discounts given to Weizmann workers such as sales in the shop by the makhokolet.

Green Course – Students for the Environment - On 4/8/2008 WIS students rejoined the national student organization Megama Yeruka (Green Course). Much activity has taken place in the 4 months following that meeting:
- More than 20 students have joined the cell.
- Some students volunteered to take on specific roles within the cell such as recycling, campus activity, internet publishing, and more. Three students took part in training given by Green Course headquarters.
- In-campus activities included:
* Increasing recycling of plastic bottles, cardboard, and electronic waste.
* Minimizing the use of disposable plastic in WIS restaurants
* Screening a film with environmental message.
- Local activities in Rehovot included:
* Initiating and organizing the first municipal panel on the environment, with more than 100 participants.
* Initiating the Rehovot transportation campaign to act together with Rehovot municipality on improving public and alternative transportation in town.
Regional and National-scale activities included:
* Cleaning Palmachim beach and protesting against the attempt to close part of the beach for a real estate project.
* Participating in protest against government intention to build coal-based power
Green tips- In order to increase awareness to our contribution to the ecological state of our planet we started to send a green "tip" which simply describes the ecological cost of some of our actions and also give alternatives ways to act. The idea behind this is to show that each one of us can make a difference, and it does not necessarily goes with much trouble.Hope for a better green days.
