How do I subscribe/unsubscribe your mailing list?

Since the council uses the FGS’ mailing list, every new student is automatically entered into the list. The database is updated about once a week, therefore, it might take a few days until you enter it. On the other hand, it is not possible to be removed from the student council’s list without being removed from the FGS’ database.

Why doesn’t the Weizmann student council belong to the National Union of Israeli students?

The National Union of Israeli students deals with issues concerning first degree students like tuition politics, strikes, and issues which are not in our students’ concern.

Joining the National Union of Israeli students does not give any significant benefit to us. Moreover, membership costs money which can be invested in other activities.

It is possible to individually join the national union of Israeli students, by contacting their office: 03-5666565. A membership card costs 30 shekels and provides various discounts in different stores as well as in public transportation. There's also a possibility to get a "student card", which is a combined membership card and credit card, without additional payment.

The student card provides discounts in over 1000 businesses.

I received a letter from the National Insurance (“BITUACH LEUMI”) informing me that I need to pay them taxes, should I pay it?

Since our payment is a scholarship and not a salary, the Weizmann Institute does not pay the National Insurance tax through the pay-slip as it is done when you are an employee.

Therefore, each student is obligated to pay the National Insurance tax independently.

You should contact your local National Insurance branch, and arrange the payments to avoid unexpected debts.

Why do we have to pay entrance fee to the student day, while in other universities it’s for free?
The Weizmann student council doesn't have other financial recourses as in bigger universities - sponsors, direct support from university budget for student days etc. Our events contain mostly 1000-1500 people compared to more than 50,000 people in the Tel-Aviv university student day. According to our experience we could not recruit sponsors to support our activities. Therefore, in order to perform this kind of event, we must charge a modest entrance fee.
How do I know what are you doing with my money?
The student council’s budget is supervised by the Weizmann finance committee. Each expense requires a specific invoice.  In addition, a detailed expenses report is published once a year on this website.
I have some disagreements with my supervisor which I’m afraid will affect my scientific progress. To whom should I address my concerns?

You should inform your chair of board of studies (“VAADAT HORAA” chairmen) and the FGS’ academic secretary (Dr. Ami Shalit).

You are also welcome to address the student Council. The council will act towards finding a solution, direct you to the appropriate person at the Weizmann Institute and accompany you during this process.

I have some personal problems I can’t discuss with my supervisor. Is there anybody who can help me regarding these issue?
You can contact the dean (Prof. Yossi Yarden) or the FGS’ academic secretary (Dr. Ami Shalit). In addition, you are welcome to contact the social worker Sonia Bechor (Tel. 3389).
I would like to organize a drawing/dancing/karate… course at the Weizmann Institute. How can I do it?
The student council will be happy to help you regarding this issue. Please contact us by mail, so we can meet and discuss it at our next meeting.
How do I join the student council?

You should participate in the next elections for student council.
