On Tuesday June 2, the Home Front Command team will execute a National Home Front Drill throughout the country.
This should be taken seriously and more information is available on their internet site.
You will feel an increased presence of army and security teams throughout the country this week and in particular, at 11.05 & 19.05 hrs, as part of this drill, you will hear loud sirens' (like a loud air raid siren) with a rising and falling pitch.
As part of this drill, all Weizmann staff and guests should evacuate to the nearest protected area in each building (if you do not know where this is, please approach your department secretary or building coordinator today so that you are prepared) and remain there for 2 minutes.
You have 90 seconds to reach the protected area.
The Security Branch will monitor the drill at the campus buildings.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the service center on x9106 (available 24/7), or your building coordinator or the Visiting Scientists office.
Kind Regards,
The Security and Fire Control Branch
As I'm sure you are aware, the weather forecast for the next few days is due to be very cold, wet, stormy and possibly even snowy!
We kindly request that you follow the instructions below now, and in general over the winter period to ensure minimum malfunctions and your comfort:
RAIN & WIND
When it is raining, please make sure that you close all of the shutters outside your windows. This stops the majority of the rain reaching the windows and possible leaking windows, together with stopping damage from flying debris due to the high winds..
HEATING
Upon leaving your apartment, please switch off the a/c units. The a/c units are not designed to operate 24/7 and in fact, this can cause the external unit to freeze, and damage the compressors meaning that you can be without heating for several days as it is impossible to defrost the units or replace compressors when it is cold and wet outside.
CONDENSATION
When cooking or showering, please make sure that you ventilate the area well to allow the condensation to escape – otherwise, this can cause the growth of a fungus on the walls. This fungus can be cleaned with hot water and bleach on a damp cloth, but good ventilation is the solution to it not growing at all.
REPORTING PROBLEMS
In order to keep the WIS apartments in good order, please make sure that you report any maintenance issues promptly to your Housing Coordinator, (Lea or Alona) during office hours.
For Emergencies (burst pipes, etc) outwith office hours call the WIS Service Center on x9106.
