The Andreas group at Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany, has started on August 1st and focusses on methods development and application in solid state NMR including ultrafast (111 kHz) magic-angle spinning. We are interested in the structure and function of biomolecules, with a focus on membrane proteins and related applications. Title: Visualising via Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) the Increase in Flow Through Channels in Biofilms.
This project will apply and develop Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques to study the control of biofilms. MRI will be used to investigate the increase in flow through the channels formed in biofilms.
Project objectives
1. Image biofilm formation, visualise flow and diffusion properties within and surrounding the biofilm and monitor the development of channels within the biofilm matrix.

A one-year post-doctoral position is available at the solid-state NMR group of Aix-Marseille University. The goal of the project is to investigate molecular crystals and powders, which cannot be characterized with conventional techniques, using solid-state NMR and dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). The research work will be based on the preliminary results published in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.

Project description

This position is aimed at development and application of multimodal PET/MRI in small animal models of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. We are interested in an individual who is firmly grounded in MR imaging theory and practice with an interest in biological applications. This work will involve various PET and MR methodologies in rodent model systems; including DTI, DSC and DCE MRI; simultaneous µPET imaging with both small molecule, antibody, and nanoparticle tracers; and focused ultrasound manipulation while imaging.

We are looking for a solid state NMR spectroscopist to run our new 400 MHz wide bore Bruker dedicated solid state NMR system. We currently have a 4 mm HXY probe, a 4 mm HX variable temperature probe and a 7 mm HX probe with the magnet.

The system is based in the University of Limerick, a small but innovative university in the west of Ireland. The position is initially for 5 years and more details are currently available on the University of Limerick human resources website - deadline for applications is 5th August. 

A post-doctoral position is available for a candidate with a PhD degree in biomolecular NMR spectroscopy and an interest in either NMR methods development and/or applications to important biological molecules. A postdoctoral position is available immediately in microscopic MRI (µMRI) study of articular cartilage. This position is funded by a new 5-year R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The project aims to determine a set of multidisciplinary molecular parameters that best describes the early changes in osteoarthritic cartilage in animal models and human at microscopic resolution. Quantitative correlation with the whole-body clinical MRI of cartilage and joint is also a part of the research plans.

An MRC-funded 3-year postdoctoral research position is available at the University of Leeds, UK, to study dynamic mechanisms of activation of receptor tyrosine kinases by cancer-associated mutations. The project will combine experimental protein biochemistry, protein NMR and biophysics techniques with state-of-the-art computational metadynamics simulations. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in some or all of these areas, and an enthusiasm and aptitude to learn rapidly in others.
