Director of the Biological NMR Facility, University of Massachusetts Amherst

The University of Massachusetts Amherst has recently enhanced its NMR facility as a result of a $95M investment in biosciences through the UMass Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS). We are now seeking applicants for a Biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility Director who will be responsible for oversight of the the biological NMR core facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Biomolecular NMR or related field

Job Duties:          

The Biomolecular NMR Facility Director has responsibility for overseeing day-to-day operations and organization of user training and assisted usage of NMR instruments, development of new methods, and communication with instrument manufacturers as needed for instrument maintenance and repair. The Biomolecular NMR Director will have specific responsibility for training and implementation of biomolecular NMR applications, and will work collaboratively with the Chemistry/Materials NMR Director who has specific responsibility for chemistry and materials science NMR applications. The Director will provide financial oversight for the Biomolecular NMR core facility, will communicate with the IALS community regarding capabilities and advantages of the facility, will develop marketing strategies, outreach activities and related presentations, will support academic & industry investigators, including data collection and analysis and project prioritization, and will develop new methodologies. The Biomolecular NMR Director will have oversight of the instrumentation used for biomolecular NMR, which is currently a 700 MHz Agilent NMR with cryoprobe, 600 MHz Bruker Avance III with cryoprobe, and will have joint oversight of the 600 MHz Bruker Avance III with solid-state capabilities, which is used for both biomolecular and material science applications.
