NMR Spectroscopist (Maternity Cover)

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge UK

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology and has played an important role in the development of many new techniques, most notably X-ray crystallography of proteins, DNA sequencing, monoclonal antibodies and most recently, cryo-electron microscopy.

The LMB has a clear goal of understanding biological processes at the molecular level, with the ultimate aim of using this knowledge to tackle specific problems in human health and disease. We aim to tackle difficult, long-term problems, which often require investment over many years.

We are seeking to appoint an experimental NMR spectroscopist to provide maternity cover until the 5th May 2019 and to strengthen our efforts in biological solution-state NMR spectroscopy.

As a core support facility, NMR spectroscopy contributes to a large range of projects, including protein complexes, membrane proteins, protein dynamics and interaction studies. NMR often complements other structural (X-ray crystallography, cryoEM) and biophysical methods through collaboration.

The LMB NMR Facility operates 5 Bruker spectrometers ranging from 500 to 800 MHz, all equipped with TCI cryoprobes and the latest hardware and software configuration.

You will have a PhD in a relevant subject, hands on experience with the running of modern NMR spectrometers and/or the analysis of NMR data and a track record of published research using NMR spectroscopy. Preference will be given to those who have experience of working in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org.

Working for UKRI MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a defined benefit pension scheme, excellent holiday entitlement (40 ½ days including bank holidays & privilege days) and Benenden Healthcare membership. You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.

Closing date: 21st June 2018

Final appointments will be subject to a pre-employment screening.
