Post-doc position in NMR and MRI

An Post-doc position is opened for 15 months in NMR and MRI in the MRIFood team at Rennes, France.


MRI-Food is the NMR research team that has been working for the last 20 years on NMR and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) as tools for characterizing food structures and food processes that generate such structures. IRSTEA’s NMR research group is a leader in NMR and MRI applied to food processing (5 scientists, 4 engineers, 1 technicians, ~ 7 PhD, CDD and Post-Doc). The Irstea NMR/MRI research group is also involved in the research platform PRISM for Multimodal MR Imaging and Spectroscopy. This platform is supported by two national networks, the life science and environment core facility network in western France "Biogenouest" and IBISA ( This platform houses a large range of NMR and MRI equipment :

  • Two 500 MHz NMR spectrometer with a micro imaging probe and a pulsed field gradient NMR probe for diffusion experiment

  • Four MRI scanners operating at 0.2 Telsa 1.5 Tesla, 4.7 Tesla and 7 Tesla

  • Three low field benchtop NMR spectrometer equipped with pulsed field gradient probe.


The candidate will be involved in a research collaborative project supported by the French Dairy Interbranch Organization (CNIEL). So he/she will be in strong contact with the R&D managers of the largest dairy company in France.


Moreover, the project is to evaluate a large range of NMR and MRI technique such as :

  • Diffusion NMR at low field and High field

  • MRI technique at 1.5 Tesla to implement water distribution methods available for dairy product

  • µ MRI technique at 11.7 Tesla

  • and P31 NMR measurements

so the project will offer a unique opportunity to expand your experience in a large range of NMR and MRI techniques for the characterization of the draining process in porous media.


We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong technical and scientific background in NMR or MRI. The candidate must hold a PhD in analytical chemistry, biophysics or material science involving NMR or MRI technique as main experimental technique.
