Job Description:

MS/NMR/drug chemistry is a sub-division of the Small Molecule Method Development (SMMD) group of Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Sciences-Analytical Development (PDMS-AD) and is responsible for:

  • Enabling base business support for the Small Molecule (SM) R&D and Manufacturing product portfolio as a Centre of Excellence for structural elucidation.
  • Compile Proof-of-Structure reports for use in regulatory filings.
  • Organic trace analysis by hyphenated mass spectrometric techniques.
  • Semi-prep isolation of impurities and degradation products to enable structural elucidation.
  • Drug chemistry.
  • Trouble shooting.

MS/NMR/drug chemistry did recently acquire two 500 MHz wide-bore NMR systems and currently is in the process of establishing on-site state-of-the-art solid-state NMR support in Beerse, Belgium.

Postdoc Scientist Solid-State NMR

Your Function

  • Setup and consolidate solid-state NMR as a new technique in the MS/NMR/drug chemistry group in Beerse.
  • Provide support in all kinds of pharmaceutical research (APIs as well as excipients): Polymorphic purity, polymorphic stability, characterization, stability and properties of amorphous solid dispersions, characterization of excipients and trouble shooting.
  • Design, lead and perform scientific experiments.
  • Apply state-of–the art scientific knowledge to ensure high quality of the delivered results.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team of researchers and show willingness to learn/explore new techniques.
  • Support scientifically projects from early to late development phase.
  • Act quickly and provide expertise and solutions for investigations on commercial products.
  • Develop test methods, provide respective documentation and write scientific reports.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, GMP and safety.
  • Stay up to date with the scientific literature in the pharmaceutical analysis field. 
  • Initiate and follow up collaboration with external partners and universities.

Job Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Physics or Chemistry (NMR – solid-state/analytical/organic), Pharmacy or a related science/engineering field.
  • 2-3 years of relevant post-doc experience or prior experience in Pharmaceutical Industry are a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in the field of organic synthetic chemistry and/or polymer chemistry and/or pharmaceutical chemistry is an asset.
  • Prior experience in solid-state NMR.
  • Ensure high scientific quality standards for experiments and take on responsibility for these experiments.
