Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology

Fixed term for 3 years, available from 1 July 2015

Research Title “Molecular level regulation of a molecular chaperone BIP”

The post-doctoral position in structural biology is available in the group of Dr Anastasia Zhuravleva the University of Leeds, UK, to work on a research project funded by Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The project aims at exploiting the latest methodological advantages in biological solution NMR and mass spectrometry as well as other biophysical and biochemical methods and computational tools, to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of a molecular chaperone BIP, a central player of the ER protein folding machinery.

You will be based at the Astbury Centre of Structural Molecular Biology (ACSMB), which provides an ideal scientific environment for this project: ACSMB strengths cover all aspects of structural molecular biology, including NMR, mass spectrometry, crystallography, cryo-EM, and single-molecule biophysics. ACSMB NMR Facility that comprises three high-field bio-NMR instruments (500, 600 and 750MHz) equipped with pulsed, field-gradient triple-resonance probes and dedicated to biological NMR applications. We have regular access to national NMR facilities at Birmingham (HWB-NMR, 900 MHz) and MRC Biomedical NMR Centre at the Francis Crick Institute (London, 950 MHz). The Leeds MS Facility has three state-of-the-art ESI-IMS-MS instruments and will provide support and expertise required for the project.

You should have PhD (or be close to completion) in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or related area. Hands-on experience in molecular biology, protein expression and purification is essential. Expertise in bio-NMR, mass spectrometry (MS) and/or computational methods is desirable.
