Postdoc position at UC Berkeley

Postdoc position available in the lab of Prof. Jeffrey Reimer at UC Berkeley. Interested and qualified individuals should send their cv to CV’s will be evaluated on the basis of the description

(student name) is to conduct basic and applied research in the area supported by the EFRC  “Center for Gas Separations Relevant to Clean Energy Technologies.” Her initial emphasis will be on the design and implementation of solid-state NMR methods towards the characterization of metal-organic framework materials. The primary tool for evaluating her work will be the design of experiments, analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and ultimately publication of original, substantive works. Her appointment is made easier by experience in both MOF chemistry and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, with particular attention to magic-angle sample spinning methods. She will have to work closely with instrumentation, hence trouble-shooting skills are essential. I look to her to be a leader, but not a “boss,” in my research group. She is expected to work with minimal daily supervision, yet must maintain communication between the two of us. Furthermore, she is expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, as necessary, in my laboratory. She will also be expected to attend group meetings, conduct service tasks, and support the laboratory and facilities as appropriate and in consultation with me. I expect her to maintain relationships with my co-PI’s in this work, namely Prof. Berend Smit at EPFL in Sion, Switzerland. Towards that end she is expected to handle multi-cultural experiences and be able to visit Switzerland with short notice. During the course of this work she may be expected to communicate with visitors, funding agencies, and the public.
