Postdoctoral Position in Condensed Matter Physics at Extreme Conditions using In-situ NMR techniques


The center for High Pressure Science & Technology Advanced Research (HPSTAR) seeks applications
for a postdoctoral position in the field of high pressure Condensed Matter-Solid State Physics. The
candidate is expected to carry out experimental research using In-situ High Pressure Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance spectroscopy in diamond anvil cells. The main focus of this project is the study of high
pressure hydrogen and hydrogen rich metal hydrides using in-house laboratory facilities for NMR in
HPSTAR Beijing and large-scale facilities (SSRF, Shanghai) in collaboration with the Shanghai
branch of HPSTAR. The research will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. habil. Thomas Meier
from the Beijing branch of HPSTAR .


This position is open for candidates with backgrounds in either Solid State Physics, High Pressure
Science and Technology, or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Combined experience of two or all of these
fields is desirable. A PhD (or an equivalent degree) in Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry is
required. Successful candidates are expected to be able to work within an international collaborative
group environment.

The initial appointment is for 24 months, with an evaluation stage after 12 months, and the possibility
for application for another (12+12) months pending research success and achievements. Post-doctoral
net salary will be similar to high-ranking international research facilities in western countries.
