Postdoctoral Position: Intermediate Protein Active Conformations, Dynamics and Interactions Investigation Using NMR Spectroscopy

Three 24-month postdoctoral positions (possible for further promotion as assistant investigator) are available from 1st Apr, 2019 (can be earlier) from Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, China. For good candidates, there are also opportunities to apply various independent research funding.

The research programs encompass an integrated structural biology and biophysics approach to understand protein dynamics, protein recognition and interaction by investigating intermediate protein active conformations (excited state), protein dynamics modulation and the subsequently changes of its activities. The project involves biochemistry in terms of protein expression, purification and establishing protein-protein interaction report systems. NMR spectroscopy will be employed for accessing the structures, dynamics of the “excited state” protein conformations and protein-protein interactions. In addition, other complementary techniques will be used such as SPR, MST, SAXS and a range of biophysical methods.

The research includes and extends beyond structural characterization to explore the role of conformational dynamics in regulating biological mechanisms.

Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM) of Chinese Academy of Sciences ( is located in Wuhan, one of the nine National Central Cities of China. Wuhan is a major transportation hub and also a leading educational hub for China. WIPM is the host institute for State Key Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance and Atomic and Molecular Physics, National Center for Magnetic Resonance in Wuhan, Key Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance in Biological Systems. The institute WIPM houses more than 10 NMR groups working in solution, solid and computation NMR fields facilitating highly efficient in-house collaboration. In our NMR center, 16 NMR spectrometers range from 500 MHz to 850 MHz and wet labs are available for all necessary biochemical experiments. Last but not least, we provide a competitive salary which is comparable to the postdoc salary in European.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD degree in biochemistry or biophysics (or other related discipline) and has experience in protein expression and purification as well as a proven publication record. To apply for this position, please send your CV, the names of two referees to;;
