Vacancy for a full Professor of Biophysical Chemistry at Radboud University - Nijmegen (NL)

Full Professor of Biophysical Chemistry (1,0 fte)

Faculty of Science
Maximum salary: € 7,431 gross/month
Vacancy number: 62.55.15
Application deadline: 7 December 2015

Responsibilities

The Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) announces an opening for a full professor of Biophysical Chemistry within the framework of Advanced Spectroscopy applied in a Chemical Biology context. You will establish a highly competitive and collaborative programme, with an emphasis on developing and applying advanced spectroscopic techniques. You will also support spectroscopic services for other research groups within the IMM, RIMLS and Radboud university medical center in a collaborative manner. Your research programme will be complementary but will also have some overlap with the programmes of other research groups within IMM, increasing both the depth and width of the knowledge spectrum of IMM.

You should have a proven track record in lecturing at an academic level and will be expected to play an active role in the educational programmes of the educational institutes. You will be responsible for, and will actively initiate, attractive and innovative science education in biophysical chemistry with an emphasis on spectroscopic methods development and their application in the study of the functional behaviour of biomolecules, biomimetic materials and related subjects.

Work environment

The aim of the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) at Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands) is to conduct research and train undergraduate and graduate students in the field of functional molecular structures and materials. The emphasis is on understanding and controlling complexity in order to be able to design new functionality in these systems. Complexity is embraced in a broad perspective. It encompasses large bioorganic structures, nano-sized materials, and molecular assemblies, as well as detailed studies of ultra-fast processes in small structures and molecules, and a rigorous advanced theoretical description of materials and molecular interactions. IMM research can roughly be subdivided into two main themes: Chemical Biology and Advanced Spectroscopy. Covering experimental as well as theoretical physics and chemistry, and with state-of-the-art spectroscopic and synthetic techniques, the groups that constitute the IMM have expertise in all areas needed to explore these fields.

What we expect from you

In summary, you should:

  • have the qualities necessary to become a successful group leader;
  • be an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial scientist with an excellent track record and the potential to conduct biophysical research at the interface of chemistry and biology using advanced spectroscopic techniques to initiate novel research at the IMM;
  • be capable of developing and strengthening professional relationships at our institute;
  • be a researcher willing to participate in projects of a multidisciplinary nature;
  • be an inspirational lecturer with excellent proven teaching skills who can participate in the educational programmes of our faculty;
