L’Oréal-UNESCO award to Prof. Shafi Goldwasser

Weizmann Institute computer science expert Prof. Shafi Goldwasser has been named North America laureate of the prestigious 23rd L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards. 
Prof. Goldwasser is a member of the Department of Computer Sciences and Applied Mathematics at Weizmann and is Director of the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at the University of California at Berkeley. She is also RSA Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT.

The winners were announced in February, on International Day for Women and Girls in Science. Prof. Goldwasser was one of five women researchers in the fields of astrophysics, mathematics, chemistry and informatics to receive the prize. She was recognized for her pioneering and fundamental work in computer science and cryptography; her research is essential for secure communication over the Internet as well as for shared computation on private data.
