In January, the American Committee’s Women for Science (W4S) Initiative continued its popular virtual conference series with a presentation by one of the Institute’s young scientists, Dr. Ruth Scherz-Shouval. Live from the Weizmann Institute, Dr. Scherz-Shouval of the Department of Biomolecular Sciences spoke about her pioneering cancer research. Her work seeks to answer the question of how cancer cells recruit normal cells to create an environment that promotes tumor progression and metastasis. Her insights have significant implications for cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Scherz-Shouval also discussed her experiences balancing her research with motherhood, shedding light on the Weizmann Institute’s efforts to support women in science and their families. A dynamic Q&A followed the presentation, which drew about 80 women to viewing sites from coast to coast.
