For Applicants

Outstanding female PhDs, from all Israeli institutions of higher learning, who have been conducting postdoctoral work abroad in the exact and natural sciences, are encouraged to apply to the Women’s Postdoctoral Career Development Award in Science.

Applications must be submitted no later than May 1, 2022.

Approximately 10 recipients will be selected per year, by a committee led by the Head of the Weizmann Institute’s Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Gender Equality.

Eligible candidates will have completed at least one year and no more than four years of postdoctoral training at the time of submission. 

The award includes the following:

  • Prize of $70,000 (USD) distributed over a two-year period
  • Private sessions with a professional career development consultant
  • Travel fund of $2,000 for job interviews in Israel
  • Help in connecting with relevant contacts at the Weizmann Institute of Science

The award is to supplement the fellowship funds the scientist is already receiving from their overseas postdoctoral research institution. The award cannot be deducted from a salary or other fellowship.

A second year of funding is contingent upon the recipient’s continuation of postdoctoral research and submission of progress reports.

Winners will be announced by the end of August 2022.

The Women’s Postdoctoral Career Development Award in Science is open to outstanding candidates who have completed a PhD in the exact and natural sciences at any one of Israel’s institutions of higher learning, are currently carrying out postdoctoral training abroad, and are planning to return to Israeli academia.

Eligibility is based on the following criteria:

  • Israeli citizenship
  • Completion of PhD at an accredited university in Israel
  • Completion of at least one year and no more than four years of postdoctoral training with a leading research group overseas
  • Existence of salary from the research group in which the applicant is already working or alternate fellowship funding
  • Submission of application no later than May 1, 2022

Recipients cannot receive a similar award for women postdocs during the same period they are receiving funding through the Women’s Postdoctoral Career Development Award in Science.

Candidate’s total income, including this award, cannot exceed $100,000 a year.

Deadline for submitting applications for 2022 is May 1, 2022.

All applicants must fill out the application form (will be open shortly) in its entirety, including attachments, to be considered for the 2022 Women’s Postdoctoral Career Development Award in Science. All materials must be submitted in English.

The items listed below (numbers 1-5) must be combined into one PDF file (maximum weight: 2MG). The PDF should be named according to the following format: (candidate’s last name_first name_ award 2022).

Recommendation letters (number 6 below) should be emailed directly to the program from the referee (the person providing the reference). Letters received from the candidate herself will not be accepted.

Applications received without the requested attachments will not be accepted.

  2. Publication list, according to the following categories
    • In press or published articles in scientific and professional journals
    • Review articles and book chapters
    • Conference abstracts
  3. Prizes and scholarships
  4. 300-word (maximum length) description of the applicant’s current research and future goals.
  5. List of funding sources for applicant’s postdoctoral work (ie, salary from the host lab, prizes, fellowships, etc.)
  6. Two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from the applicant’s postdoc advisor. The applicant can choose any relevant party to write the second letter. A third letter of recommendation can be submitted as well, but is not required.
