The Weizmann women in chemistry (WWIC) is a student forum for women in all stages of their scientific career in the faculty of chemistry. Our goal is to promote, encourage and expand the horizons of women in pursuit of professional careers in science, by building a supportive community and providing a variety of programs.
Our monthly-base meetings include:
- Professional development workshops – provide practical tools and develop leadership skills, confidence and management skills.
- Inspiring talks from leading speakers (both women and men) about topics such as work-life balance and personal stories.
- Providing a platform for open dialog on selected topics.
- Recreational activities.

At our meeting today we will host Dr. Michal Leskes, from the Department of Material and interfaces, at the Weizmann Institute. She will tell us about her path in academia, the challenges she experienced and what helped her overcome them. She will tell us from her point of view about a
advisor-student or employee-employer relationship and how to make career decisions that are right for you. Choosing my own path
Our speaker this month is Dr. Elena Meirzada, currently a postdoctoral fellow at Colombia University in NYC. Elena was born in Iran and moved to Israel at age 12. She completed her BSc in chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, followed by a direct track Ph.D. in the Department of
Materials and Interfaces at Weizmann Institute of Science. During her graduate studies, she was awarded numerous prizes and prestigious scholarships, among them, the Dean's Prize and the Dimitris N. Chorafas Prize for an outstanding student, and the Israel National Postdoctoral Award for Advancing Women in Science.
