Ms. Marvelle Koffler

Feb 02, 1930 — Jan 14, 2020

It is with deep sorrow that I share with you the news of the passing of Marvelle Koffler, a dear friend and supporter of the Institute. Marvelle passed away peacefully in her home in Toronto on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

Marvelle Koffler and her husband Murray z”l were longstanding friends and supporters of the Weizmann Institute. Murray, who passed away in 2017, was an outstanding lay leader of Weizmann Canada and the Weizmann Institute – eventually serving as Chair of the Board of Governors from 1987-1993. Marvelle was the driving force behind the family philanthropic activity at the Institute, which focused on breast cancer research as well as physics research, areas that Marvelle was very passionate about. Their name will be forever present on campus through the landmark Koffler Accelerator of the Canada Centre of Nuclear Physics, an icon of Israeli science. The Koffler legacy goes forward as well in the Marvelle Koffler Program for Breast Cancer Research and the Murray B. Koffler Professorial Chair.

Marvelle Koffler was a Life Member of the Institute’s International Board. She was first elected to the Board of Governors in 2001, and continued to be an active and engaged member for many years. She was elected as a Life Member in 2014.

On behalf of the members of the International Board and the entire Weizmann Institute community, I extend our most heartfelt condolences to Marvelle’s children Leon, Theo, Tom, Adam, and Tiana, and to the entire extended family.

Sincerely,

Alon Chen
