Ms. Andrea Klepetar-Fallek

Apr 23, 1920 — May 24, 2019

The Weizmann Institute family deeply mourns the passing of Andrea Klepetar-Fallek of New York. Andrea passed away on May 24, 2019, in Switzerland; she was 99.

Andrea Klepetar-Fallek was a true cosmopolitan woman. Born in Vienna in 1920, she survived World War II travelling through Yugoslavia and immigrated to the young State of Israel in 1948. She had lived in Argentina and Switzerland, and finally made her permanent home in New York City. Andrea maintained a large network of friends all over the world and lived a full and interesting life. She was a remarkable woman: tender yet very strong, a lover of art and music, and a wonderful conversationalist.

Andrea was a dedicated supporter of the Weizmann Institute for more than 20 years. In 1997, she established the Fred and Andrea Fallek Professorial Chair in Breast Cancer Research in support of the research of Prof. Hadassa Degani. In recent years, this Chair has been supporting the research of Prof. Deborah Fass.

Andrea Klepetar-Fallek served on the Institute’s Board of Governors, and later the International Board, consecutively since 1998. She became a Life Member in 2010.

It is always difficult to say goodbye to such a unique person and dear friend. Andrea will be missed by all who knew her. On behalf of the Weizmann Institute, the members of the International Board, and the entire Weizmann Institute family, we extend condolences to all her loved ones.
