Mr. Lon Morton

Mar 28, 1945 — Apr 17, 2017

It is with much sorrow that we share with you the news of the passing of our dear friend, Lon Morton. Lon passed away on Monday, April 17, at the age of 72.

Lon started his illustrious career as a professional baseball player at the age of 17 with the California Angels and Cleveland Indians before making his way in the business sector. He founded a major pension consulting firm in 1978 and was a leader in the field of financial investments in Southern California as the president and CEO of his investment firm, Morton Capital Management.

It is a measure of the man that he was noted not only for his business acumen, but for his warm heart. Lon also devoted much of his time to philanthropy and leadership in both the United States and Israel. At the Weizmann Institute, Lon served on the International Board, the American Committee's National Board of Directors and the Southern California Regional Board. Along with his wife, Roxanna “Rocky,” he was a member of the President's Circle. They funded several projects together including the Morton Fund for Breast and Ovarian Cancer, the Harari Center for Experimental Physics, the Morton Family Research Fund and the Morton Family President’s Discretionary Fund.

His integrity, compassion, and ability to ignite his own spirit of philanthropy in others was truly commendable and a legacy for future generations. The Institute has been honored by this association with Lon, and he will be sorely missed.

On behalf of the members of the International Board and the entire Weizmann Institute family, we extend to Rocky and the entire family our condolences for their loss.
